A New Logistics Hub in Gdańsk

Gdańsk is becoming a key location on Poland’s logistics map, as evidenced, among others, by growing TEU handling volumes, new port development or the handling of some of the world’s largest shipping merchant vessels.

The 12 thousand sq. meter facility combines storage and cross-docking functions. It allows three-sided access to a cross-dock terminal substantially cutting storage operation times. The new facility situated at “Centrum Logistyczne 7R Gdańsk Kowale” features 27 docks, 2 drive-in gates and a cross-dock ramp as well as uses advanced, automated system forklift trucks to enable high stacking along aisles that are only slightly wider than the forklift itself.

The new facility will end up significantly supporting the development of contract logistics and domestic and international groupage movement. One key service is the handling of LCL shipments arriving in shipping containers. We are also planning to exploit the growing popularity of e-commerce. The hub houses a temporary storage warehouse, a customs authority-approved location and a bonded warehouse, all of which help significantly speed up the handling of goods arriving from the Far East.

Forward-Looking Pomerania

The pace of business growth is high in Pomerania as accompanied by dynamic investment in infrastructure development. Achievement by the Port of Gdańsk is particularly noteworthy as it ranks fourth on the Baltic sea thanks to a record number of TEU handled. The port also boasts the best business performance among all the Polish ports. Just last year, the port’s share in Poland’s commercial exchange was to 48.2%.

- Only last year, the number of containers handled at the Port of Gdańsk exceeded 2 million TEU. This represents a growth of over 5%. Meanwhile, according to estimates about the trade of goods at the Port of Gdynia, TEU volume may double over the next 10 years. When you add road and rail infrastructure investment aimed at improving port access on top, we can expect substantial volume growth in the long-term. Demand for logistics services may also increase explaining why we’ve opted to develop our hub in this region – said Jarosław Bomba, ROHLIG SUUS Logistics Gdańsk Branch Director

The Gdańsk-based facility is one of a series of warehouse development projects we’ve completed. In the beginning of July, we’ve opened our largest to-date storage & cross-dock hub. The facility, which spans 48.5 thousand sq. meters, is located in Sokołów nearby Warsaw.
