Direct shipment from China – direction: Wroclaw! New offer from ROHLIG SUUS Logistics
2011-11-10
ROHLIG SUUS Logistics has launched direct sea groupage lines from China to Wroclaw. A dedicated office located in the Lower Silesia region supports Clients from western and southern Poland. This new investment will shorten transit time by up to 5 days in comparison to the current service via Gdynia.
Direct groupage connections from Chinese ports to Wroclaw were first launched in October 2011. They are an effect of a new strategy at ROHLIG SUUS Logistics, which aims to intensify the development of sea, air and intermodal freight. Shipments dispatched from seaports in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Ningbo and Xiamen, etc. get transported to the port in Hamburg, and then by road freight to Wroclaw. From there, they are distributed to recipients across Poland, which effectively means that Customers receive their parcel up to 5 days earlier.
With the launch of fixed groupage lines from China to Wroclaw, the Wroclaw platform has allocated a dedicated operations office with Client supervisors. Their support spans the entire southwestern region of the country.
“Our wish is to be close to the Client. In accordance with this principle we profess, we changed our centralized customer service model to air & sea customer service at a regional level. This will facilitate a closer relationship with Customers and enable faster response to their needs,” says Andrzej Kozlowski, Member of the Board responsible for development of air, sea & rail operations.
ROHLIG SUUS Logistics also comprehensively represents Customers before customs institutions. We provide transport to customs warehouses in Poland, as well as bonded and consignment warehouses. The company has an AEO certificate, which enables customs clearance in a simplified procedure that significantly reduces its time.
The launch of regular sea groupage connections between China and the Lower Silesia region is accompanied by a campaign promoting sea, air and intermodal services of ROHLIG SUUS Logistics. The campaign slogan is “We’re on our way!” -
60 days with e-toll
2011-11-10
In July, a system of electronic payment collection was installed on Polish highways and selected express and domestic roads. The debate around e-toll was heated from the very beginning, giving rise to many discussions and a lot of anxiety, especially in the logistics branch. Was it a reasonable concern? Grzegorz Rusin, Domestic Distribution Project Manager at ROHLIG SUUS Logistic, tells all about the first 60 days with new rules.
The troubles with e-toll
The switch to an e-toll system and paid commercial highways is proceeding with some difficulties. We are clearly setting a precedent in the field of Polish transport. New concepts, rules and processes cause problems – not only for logistics operators and freighters, but also for the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, and Kapsch TrafficCom, the company who implemented and now manage the system. A two-day delay in the launch of the entire system was just a beginning.Over a month after the introduction of e-toll, there are still some malfunctioning semigantry cranes, which are responsible for registration of vehicles driven on the toll road. Cases of equipment thefts were also registered. Despite these facts, payments from freight companies are still being collected.
Therefore, an important question lingers, that of whether and how equipment deficiencies affect the charges collected from prepaid accounts of freighters. One can imagine a situation where payment collection begins when a vehicle enters a toll road, but the system fails to register the vehicle leaving the pay zone, and hence does not stop charging due to a fault of a semigantry crane. It remains unknown how the system interprets such incidents. Moreover, since freighters still do not get access to the details of their charges, it is impossible for them to verify the costs that drivers bear. On the viaTOLL website, even a logged-on user cannot filter individual transits, and verify where and when (with a precise hour) they took place. Therefore, an exact verification of prices and charges is impossible.
Who pays for e-toll and how much do they pay?
The cost of e-toll eventually falls on the clients as an additional tax burden. Most logistics companies based their way of calculating additional charges on mechanisms and simulations founded upon available information and historical data. At ROHLIG SUUS Logistics, we analyzed our transits from the January-June period of this year, basing on available official materials on toll roads. We identified the current toll roads that were used by our vehicles before the introduction of the system, and then calculated the costs that our freighters would have incurred, had e-toll functioned during that period. Total costs were a base for defining the road payment rate that our clients eventually had to bear as a percentage value of the entire freight price.
Furthermore, bigger difficulties with settlement of cost arise between operators and freighters. The aforementioned problem with lack of specification of transit charges makes it difficult to verify the actual costs of individual freighters. Meanwhile, we are forced to base our charges on the individual calculations of our subcontractors. However, given our long-lived cooperation with dependable and experienced freighters, we can depend on their data with great confidence. Nonetheless, this does not change the fact that exact operator-subcontractor calculations are difficult to make until the whole system begins to work properly.
Yes or no for e-toll?
The electronic system of payment collection is already a reality that will not avoid. Verification of the system requires more time, especially given that payments are being charged only since 3 July. Introduction of these fees is a source of additional income for the state budget, in accordance with European unification. One can only hope these incomes will contribute to the improvement of Polish roads, instead of becoming another provision to the general fund, like the fuel surcharge. This would constitute an extremely positive effect for the entire logistics industry.
For consumers, the introduction of e-toll is a blessing in disguise. From their standpoint, e-toll should not substantially translate into price increases. The share of transport cost in the price of products rarely exceeds 3%. Therefore, even a five-percent increase in transport costs should not in practice change the prices of goods on shelves.

ROHLIG SUUS Logistics reveals the secrets of the sea freight to Clients
2010-07-23
In order to begin a fruitful partnership, ROHLIG SUUS Logistics invited representatives of Wema, a Polish importer of tiles, to tour one of the ships owned by Maersk. The client had a chance to directly observe port operations, as well as loading and unloading of the ship.
The company has established cooperation with Wema Röhlig Suus Logistics in the first quarter of 2010. The operator is responsible for customs services as well as for the transportation of the products from China to the Poland. The goods as glazed tiles and terracotta are transported on Maersk Line’s ships. Röhlig Suus Logistics in order to acquaint their customers with the shipping process, invited them to visit Sally Maersk container. It is good to know that, vessels of this type are the largest in the Baltic Sea (the capacity is over 8,000 containers).
While attending the event, the representatives of Wema had the possibility to observe port operations in practice; they witnessed the loading and unloading of containers, the process of planning & routing, and how the ship and crew function on a daily basis. A Maersk employee told the Wema representatives about the fleet, capacity and technical capabilities.
“Our Clients sometimes do not fully realise how port operations look like in real life: what they are about, how complicated they are, and how much needs to be done to ensure they run smoothly. A two-hour stay on the ship is an ideal way to deepen the knowledge, both practical and theoretical. Seeing as the representatives of Wema truly enjoyed their tour, we would like to organise such trips more often in the future”, - said Ewa Przyłucka, Branch Director of ROHLIG SUUS Logistics in Tricity (Trójmiasto).
During the stay on a ship, the Clients not only toured the captain’s bridge, but also got to know the life on a ship from the inside. They talked to the crew, were served refreshments in the crew kitchen and even witnessed the process of loading food onto the ship. This remarkable happening organised by ROHLIG SUUS Logistics linked important technical elements with typical fun facts about the seaports and ships
The tour was organised on the July 15th, 2010, at the DCT terminal in Gdańsk.

10 Years of Partnership between LG Electronics and ROHLIG SUUS Logistics
2010-07-06
This spring marked the 10th anniversary of the partnership between LG Electronics Polska – a world leader in high-tech electronics, and ROHLIG SUUS Logistics – one of the leading logistics operators in the country. How have the two companies managed to maintain such a long and fruitful partnership?
Since 2000, ROHLIG SUUS Logistics has provided complex services in storage and domestic distribution of LG products, including washing machines, refrigerators, TVs, small household equipment, telephones and audio equipment. ROHLIG SUUS is the sole operator for LG Electronics in Poland in terms of logistics and domestic distribution, having won the two-year bid for LG logistics operations five consecutive times.
The recipe for success? Joint development and an elastic approach to cooperation!
„The logistics operator has to follow us, has to grow beside us.” – these words by Tomasz Szczepański, the supply chain manager at LG Electronics Poland, perfectly sum up the 10-year cooperation between the two companies. During this period, both RSL and LG have developed significantly and gained more experience by anticipating all kinds of market changes, as well as mutual expectations. The strength of the progress of both companies can be observed by looking at the successively increasing range of cooperation. Initially, RSL was only responsible for customs services for LG products, but with time, RSL also took on storage and distribution. This was firstly done on a domestic level, from the central warehouse and directly from the factories in Mława and Kobierzyce, but then also included international groupage distribution lines to the Czech Republic and Slovakia. To ensure the highest possible level of safety for the products, RSL has provided the latest available solutions in terms of storage standards, by storing LG products in a TAPA FSR certified warehouse in Łubna since 2008.
“Over the past 10 years, we have strived to fulfill the expectations of LG in the best way possible – the expansion of our groupage system serves as a great example. We started off by handling the shipment flow from the central LG warehouse. Most of the times, it was a large number of shipments that would later be handed over to the FTL branch for distribution to different clients in the system. However, the situation has recently changed. Both market conditions and client expectations have shifted, which encouraged LG to distribute the goods in a groupage system directly from the factory to the client. Having started to develop a distribution network at the time, we were able to take over the direct transports from LG factories in Mława and Kobierzyce, and integrate them with our distribution system. This has greatly reduced costs of transport for LG, and at the same time made us feel satisfied because we quickly met our client’s expectations,” says Wojciech Kraśniewski, Domestic Operations Director at ROHLIG SUUS Logistics.
As a leader in consumer electronics, LG requires a high level of technological awareness, even from their logistic operator. ROHLIG SUUS Logistics cares for constant development in information technologies, which made possible an integration of the IT systems of both companies in 2001. This kind of solution allowed for a fast, bilateral exchange of information – it is a perfect tool that gives LG access to current stock levels and the amount of distributed goods.
10 years have passed…
“2010 marks the 10th anniversary of cooperation with LG Electronics, which gives us a great deal of satisfaction. It confirms the high quality of our services, as well as our flexibility and a good understanding of the electronics market. The Korean partners have a reputation for being very demanding when it comes to business cooperation. To us, they have been strong negotiators who always play fair. Over the past 10 years, we have grown right beside each other and enriched our experience. It is my firm belief that we are looking at many more years of a fruitful, mutual partnership,” says Tadeusz Chmielewski, Chairman of the Board at ROHLIG SUUS Logistics.Currently, the range of services provided by the logistic operator includes management of the central LG warehouse, assembly of goods for transport according to the orders, national distribution from the warehouse and factories to recipients and stores, customs services and value-added services, such as taping products, adding manuals, repacking, etc. Furthermore, ROHLIG SUUS Logistics provides the client with a dedicated, TAPA FSR certified warehouse, and an EDI module with individually designed technological solutions.
“We are very glad that over 10 years of cooperation, ROHLIG SUUS Logistics grew together with LG, expanded the network of distribution points, and managed to conform to altering market demands. Thanks to the nature of our cooperation, it is possible to react to changes very quickly and adapt to the business requirements of our Clients,” says Tomasz Szczepański, supply chain manager at LG Electronics Poland.
The two companies signed their first contract in 1999, yet the truly fruitful partnership started a year later.

Since March 2010 ROHLIG SUUS Logistics is responsible for providing warehousing services and logistics activities associated with Valeo automotive headlamp products. ROHLIG SUUS Logistics beat the competition not only through compliance with these requirements, but primarily due to many years of experience in the automotive industry and flexibility in matching the logistics processes to customer requirements. Moreover, the Valeo project required the integration of information systems of both companies.
- This is the second time Valeo has chosen ROHLIG SUUS Logistics. This agreement is our pride, as it confirms our preparation and competence in the service of companies from the automotive sector. The challenge of the project was a very short time to run the operation, but thanks to the actions carried out very smoothly, we managed to complete the task on schedule. - says Anna Galas, Logistics Project Manager.
The contract between ROHLIG SUUS Logistics and Valeo is a second joint project of the companies. The first one started in December 2009 and included the logistics for engine cooling systems.

ROHLIG SUUS Logistics - holder of the TAPA FSR certificate
2010-04-22
ROHLIG SUUS Logistics has received a TAPA FSR (A) certificate – a document that guarantees high standards of security and accountability for the management and storage of goods in the Distribution Center in Łubna.
The TAPA FSR Certificate was awarded to ROHLIG SUUS Logistics Company on January 8, 2010 by Germanischer Lloyd Certification (GLIS) - one of three institutions in the world with the power to audit logistics companies in this field. The certificate relates to the Distribution Centre CDC Łubna (Mazowieckie voivodship) and is valid for 2 years from the date of issue. The next external audit will take place in January 2012.
The certification audit was conducted in terms of storage, loading and management of valuable goods (including VAS services). The document confirms that ROHLIG SUUS Logistics meets TAPA FSR standards by using:
• Monitoring systems based on CCTV (provides superb picture quality, even at night)
• Appropriate lighting for excellent camera image quality
• Strict procedures granting warehouse access only to select few,
• Alarms associated with all entries, exits and windows, including vibration sensors and laser motion sensors,
• Preferable equipment for distribution cars, which makes customer products more secure, even during transportation, and
• Dedicated security agencies."Currently, the TAPA FSR certification constitutes proof for customers that a logistics company is a credible, trustworthy business partner. For many years, we have provided services for companies from industries with greater operating risk in the transport and warehousing processes, such as the electronic or tobacco industry. For these customers, the TAPA requirements are particularly important because of the additional security of their products, even those most valuable," says Tomasz Smolarek, Security & Internal Audit Manager at ROHLIG SUUS Logistics.
TAPA (Transported Asset Protection Association) is an international organization that unites not only security experts, but also the 500 largest producers of high-value consumer goods (such as Dell, HP, Sony, Volvo, Philip Morris International, Kodak, Nike). Members of TAPA in order to minimize the risk of theft of their products in the supply chain, laid upon subcontractors to carry out specific standards for the safe transport - Freight Security Requirement (FSR).
In order to minimise the risk of product theft in the supply chain, TAPA members have created a Freight Security Requirement (FSR) for all subcontractors to comply with, which comprises certain quality standards to maximise transport security. -
SKONTO - the next service package from ROHLIG SUUS Logistics
2010-04-22
ROHLIG SUUS Logistics launches SKONTO – a new offer as part of the complex package of services for the transporters. SKONTO will reduce the payment time for the implementation of orders.
The introduction of SKONTO is another step taken by ROHLIG SUUS Logistics towards assisting the transport companies in a time of variable market conditions. This offer gives subcontractors an opportunity to receive payment for the invoices even after 9 days of their issue.
For carriers, this means above all the possibility of better management of financial resources of their company. Faster receipt of payments can aid in better planning of financial investments and maintaining liquidity. More importantly, using SKONTO will reinforce the credibility of the company in negotiations with banks, and thus give easier access to credit."All these activities enhance the position of enterprises and allow conscious and rational price calculations for transport services," says Tomasz Pyka, the International FTL Director of ROHLIG SUUS Logistics.
SKONTO is not limited to a fixed group of subcontractors. The goal of this new offer is to encourage cooperation with new companies who might have a skeptical approach when it comes to the solvency of a new business partner."We try to be very flexible in response to the needs of subcontractors. In exceptional cases, we allow an extension of payment invoices. I hope that this offer will be met with interest and will strengthen our business relations with subcontractors," adds Tomasz Pyka.
In 2009, ROHIG SUUS developed and implemented the most valuable loyalty package in the market – the “SUUS Trucker”, which offers services that diminish operating costs. It includes amenities such as:
• FLEET CARD – discounts on fuel at over 200 selected petrol stations in the country and abroad, including points for refueling and the possibility of exchanging them for additional bonuses;
• PURCHASE AND EXCHANGE OF TIRES – discounts in Poland and in the EU for the purchase and servicing of tires at one of the best manufacturers, including access to the history of purchases and services (reporting), which help in the management of the company;
• PURCHASE OF VEHICLES AND SPARE PARTS FOR VEHICLES AND TRAILERS – a guarantee of specially negotiated rates with leading manufacturers in the market, an offer which applies to both new and used vehicles;
• REPAIR OF VEHICLES AND TRAILERS – special offer on site for trucks and trailers, which allows the company to reduce current operating costs and repairs;

ROHLIG SUUS Logistics enters the durable goods transport market
2010-04-22
ROHLIG SUUS Logistics (formerly Rohlig Poland) has received a positive assessment from the international certification body, SGS. This success comes in light of the recent implementation of the HACCP system in the Myslowice branch. Now, the company has even greater possibilities in the management of supply chains for food products.
The implementation of HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) is a legal obligation for businesses that want to participate in the supply chain of food products. Recognition of the HACCP by SGS (world leader in the field of certification of quality management) confirms that ROHLIG SUUS Logistics has the competencies that allow secure storage and distribution of food products. Moreover, the company not only defines, but also swiftly prevents the potential health risks in the supply chain. Thanks to a favourable evaluation by a reputable certification body, ROHLIG SUUS Logistics expanded its capabilities in the durable goods market. In addition to forwarding services, ROHLIG SUUS now also provides more advanced solutions, such as distribution, value-added services and copacking.
“Legal requirements state that in order to handle food products, it is necessary to act in accordance with HACCP. We are therefore happy with the positive outcome of the audit as it gives us a range of new opportunities. The most important ones are servicing full truck orders (FTL) that require HACCP accreditation, and storage of durable goods according to the highest safety standards. This is yet another step that significantly enlarges the target group of our customers," says Tomasz Smolarek, Security & Internal Audit Manager in ROHLIG SUUS Logistics. The obligation to implement the HACCP system and abide by its rules applies to companies that are part of the food product supply chain, including the distributors.

ROHLIG SUUS Logistics (formerly Rohlig Poland) – one of the leading logistics operators – is expanding its range of activities on the Indian market. This has become possible due to a strategic partnership with a joint venture Weiss-Rohlig, who have recently acquired 50% of the shares in an Indian company, Tricon Shipping Pvt Ltd. As a result of this transaction, ROHLIG SUUS Logistics – the Polish partner of the international holding – can expand its offer, providing more competitive services in India, and at the same time maintaning the high standards of their activities.
According to the Polish embassy in India, transactions between Poland and India in 2008 have exceeded 1 billion USD. Thanks to a partnership from the network – Weiss-Rohlig, ROHLIG SUUS Logistics will expand its offer on the Indian market. This is yet another step on the quest to perfect their international operations potential and expand the logistics infrastructure that enables Customer Services at the highest of standards.
„For companies from the logistics and forwarding sector, India is a country of extremely far-reaching logistics potential. Only in the past year, trade transactions between Poland and India have increased by 20%. The most dynamic growth for Polish import was experienced in machines, whereas the export to our country was dominated by textiles. India is aspiring to become the third most powerful economy in the world, which is a realistic target – given their capital, and the growth rate in India and other countries in the regions of Asia and the Pacific. Even now, they are 7 positions above Poland in the economical ranking. Over the past few years, India has invested vast funds in the modernisation of their road, rail, and airport infrastructure. We hope that thanks to the transactions today, the Indian market will become an integral part of our strategy in the future” – says Piotr Dryglas, Chief Operating Officer (Airfreight, Seafreight & Railfreight) at ROHLIG SUUS Logistics SA.
In India, ROHLIG SUUS Logistics is planning to approach many companies from various sectors, such as automotive, textiles, high-tech, pharmaceuticals and FMCG.

New Strategy for Growth
2009-05-26
With the 20th anniversary of their existence, ROHLIG SUUS Logistics SA (formerly known as Rohlig Poland) – one of the leading logistics operators – has presented the company’s new strategy. It is based on dynamic, organic growth and expansion of their portfolio of services. The Board is not excluding consolidations in the forwarding & logistics sector.
The strategy adopted by ROHLIG SUUS Logistics assumes development of the forwarding system in Central-Eastern Europe, and also expansion in road-freight and logistics to developing countries, such as Romania, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. Moreover, thanks to the cooperation with Rohlig & Co., the company is planning to increase the share of exports, including air-freight, especially in terms of shipments from the Far East.
The Board of ROHLIG SUUS Logistics has also shared plans of increasing their activity on the Indian market. This has become possible thanks to the partnership with Rohlig &Co., an international group which has recently acquired 50% of shares in an Indian company, Tricon Shipping Pvt Ltd. As a result of this transaction, ROHLIG SUUS Logistics, the Polish representative of the international concern, will expand the range of its portfolio by offering more competitive services in India, maintaining the same high standards of their operations. The Board is certain that the possibility of increasing their activities on the Indian market is yet another step in their desire to perfect the operational potential of the company.
“The strategy of the new brand you see today is a continuation of activities formerly conducted by Rohlig Poland,” says Tadeusz Chmielewski, Chief Executive Officer at ROHLIG SUUS Logistics. “We define company growth under a new brand, as well as new Customers as our main goals. I am certain that adding new services to our portfolio and customising them according to the individual needs of our Customer will bear fruit – we will increase our share in the forwarding & logistics sectors of countries in Central-Eastern Europe. We always try to do our best, so that cooperation with our Customers all over the world runs smoothly, in a partner-like atmosphere. And it seems like our Customers really trust us, as exemplified by this year’s 10th anniversary of our cooperation with LG. This international concern truly appreciates our services, and we are therefore their only operator in terms of domestic distribution and logistics.”
In relation to plans of dynamic growth, the Board of ROHLIG SUUS Logistics has decided to make themselves independent from the Group Rohlig & Co., and form a strategic cooperation on the most important markets on a partnership basis. This change is accompanied by an evolution of the name and the graphic logo of the company. The new name consists of three parts: ROHLIG emphasise the strategic cooperation with the international concern and guarantees constant presence on international markets. The second and third parts unite to form one part, SUUS Logistics (suus is derived from Latin and means ‘ours’) – which to us describes our own logistics competencies. The whole name – ROHLIG SUUS Logistics – accentuates the independence, as well as the potential of services we provide.
„This year, we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of our existence, and what follows – a strategic partnership with the international concern ROHLIG. Over these years, we have become more independent and significantly increased the range of our competencies. We have adjusted the structure of our organisation to the regional peculiarity, needs of local customers and the current situation on the market,” adds Tadeusz Chmielewski.Over 20 years of existence on the Polish market, ROHLIG SUUS Logistics has significantly developed its competencies and the quality of services. It is only since 2003 that:
- The number of employees increased by 300% and in 2008 amounted to over 600 people.
- The average yearly increase in revenues amounted to 36% and in 2008 reached 352 million PLN.
- The number of orders increased, on average, by 35,5% every year and in 2008 went over 550,000.
Moreover, Rohlig SUUS Logistics is expanding their logistics centre in Cracow. The new centre, apart from the forwarding offices which have existed so far, will now also include a warehouse and a terminal. This is to incorporate all key logistics competencies in this branch in Southern Poland, and at the same time ensure the complexity of the company’s services maintained at low prices.
